I loved our most recent destination because it has a big city feel and small town charm... If you haven't guessed it yet, I am talking about Springfield, Illinois.
(Skip the story and read the end if you are interested in places to eat in Springfield. Don't worry. I get it. Sometimes we just want what we came here for and not all the stuff that leads up to it.)

My oldest son and I took a walk downtown. Just me and him. We don’t get much time with just us two, so we both look forward to our mommy and son dates!
Walking out of our hotel room and looking around, it looked like a big city. My son loved all the tall buildings. I loved all the little shops and restaurants. The streets are surprisingly quiet. Like a small town. Not crowded and busy like big city streets are.
Not too far down the road from our hotel was the Old State Capitol building. We walked the trail around the building, talking and taking photos. (He loves photography just like his mommy does!) After we made it back around to the front we went inside. In the entry way there was a large staircase. I felt as if I had stepped back into the 1800’s. It was surreal. Maybe that sounds silly, but you just don’t see buildings with such grandness anymore.
The ceiling was so high up.
I felt really small.
They have done a great job preserving a time in history there. I definitely recommend checking it out. Even if you are not in to history, it’s still worth seeing. It's free too!
As we were walking back toward the hotel I noticed Cold Stone Creamery, so I decided to stop and get us a special treat. I realized that my son is 5 years old, and never had Cold Stone before! We don't eat much junk food like that, so it was a treat! He, of course, thought it was the best thing ever!
If you are ever in Springfield and looking for a place to eat, get coffee (or tea!), I definitely recommend these places:
Pies the Limit. (If you like pizza, pasta and salad.) http://piesthelimit.com
Sargent Peppers Cafe. (If you don't know what a horseshoe is, you should!) http://www.sgt-peppers-cafe.com/index.html
One of my favorite places if you like coffee (or tea like me) is Caribou Coffee. Springfield has one of the last Caribou Coffee shops in Illinois. There used to be a few in Chicago, but those are all gone now. They are quickly disappearing and I am not sure why. They are way better than Starbucks! So, be sure to stop in before it closes down too. https://locations.cariboucoffee.com/us/il/springfield/1025-outer-park-drive

Hi! I'm Lyndsey.
I am the artist behind iystudios. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. Believe it or not, it all started with a disposable camera. Yes, disposable!
Flashback about 30 years and you will find me as a toddler taking my first selfie before the world even knew what a selfie was. I still have the photo. It's not pretty. You probably will never see it online, but it does exist. I have come along way since then!
I have worked hard at perfecting my craft and learning all I can about photography and design. I have spent most of my years behind the camera and you will rarely see me in front of the camera, if ever.
