You may have noticed that I haven't posted a blog in awhile. Now, things are looking a bit different around here. If you are wondering why, click below to find out more!
This is not your average photography and travel blog anymore. I tried that and it just wasn't me.
When I first started my website, I chose to blog because I wanted to write about photography, travel and just life in general. I wanted to share things that were interesting to me. What I found though, was that no one was reading it...
Change. In order to be more relevant.
So I did. I deleted all my old blog posts and started over. For the next 2 years I tried to fit into the box of being relevant online. It worked in some ways. I had more readers, and more traffic to my website, but I didn't enjoy it. There was a lot of pressure to constantly have something new to offer people. Tutorials, products (both physical and virtual), catchy headlines and eye catching images, videos and graphics, email lists, ads, branding, marketing, social media, and so on. My head was spinning. I couldn't keep up.
It seemed as if the goal was to put myself in a neatly branded box stuffed full of things to do, and do whatever's inside of that box, over and over again because no one will remember me if I don't. After 2 years of trying to keep up, I became drained. I lost what I loved about creating because I was so busy trying to do what everyone else was doing, and what everyone else said was best. In the end, I found that it's just not for me. It's not what I want for iystudios. It's not that what I was doing was bad, it's just that it wasn't me. Therefore, I decided that I am going back to my roots so to speak. Back to where I was before I tried to fit into a box that wasn't made for me.
For now, my old posts are still here. I have worked hard on them and I have written about things that I truly do love. I don't want to delete all my hard work. I also don't want to change it. I just want to try something different. So these newer posts won't look the same as the older ones.
If you like the change or if you hate the change, let me know! I'd love to hear from you either way!
If you are still reading, I want you to know that it's okay to not fit in the box. It's okay to get out of the box. It's okay to be you. Just you. Exactly how you are. You don't have to be the same as everyone else. Sure, some people will leave because of it. The way I see it is: if they want to leave because you are trying to be yourself and do what's best for you, then why would you even want them to stay? Being yourself will attract others who love you for you. And that's all we really want anyway, isn't it?
... until next time ...
Hi! I'm Lyndsey.
I am the artist behind iystudios. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. Believe it or not, it all started with a disposable camera. Yes, disposable!
Flashback about 30 years and you will find me as a kid taking my first selfie before the world even knew what a selfie was. I still have the photo. It's not pretty. You probably will never see it online, but it does exist. I have come along way since then!
I have worked hard at perfecting my craft and learning all I can about photography and design. I have spent most of my years behind the camera and you will rarely see me in front of the camera, if ever.
